Nine Chorales After Ingeborg Bachmann (2025) - SATB Choral Score
Nine Chorales After Ingeborg Bachmann (2025)
SSAA choir, two violins / 13 minutes
Description:
This emotionally direct and philosophically urgent work was commissioned by the Rutgers University Voorhees Choir and premiered in April 2025 under the direction of Stephanie Tubiolo.
Combining texts adapted from the poetry of Ingeborg Bachmann (1926–1973) with passages from Psalm 102, the work explores the erosion of truth in public life and the spiritual disorientation of living in a time untethered from reality. In short, intense movements, each shaped in the form of a chorale, the piece invites performers and listeners to confront the emotional and moral weight of discernment, loss, and moral clarity in a disordered world.
Musically, the chorales emphasize text intelligibility, harmonic subtlety, and expressive phrasing. Ideal for collegiate or professional treble choirs, the piece also features a prominent and expressive role for two violins.
